Dear Classmates and Friends,

The reunion is approaching!  Many have reserved rooms and/or sent  Saturday night dinner checks BUT there are many of you we are still hoping to hear from.

The cut off date for the special room rates at the Embassy Suites is August 30.  After that date a king bed room will go from $189  to $249 and the double bed room from $219 to $329  plus the 15.4% tax. When you call to make reservations be sure to mention the Rich High 50th  Reunion.  FYI the hotel says there is a $40 extra person charge after 2 adults in a room.

The cut-off date for your check for dinner reservations is August 30. Make check payable to Sharon Heald and specify chicken ($50) or London Broil ($60) per person.

Transportation info:

From O’Hare there are shuttles to the Embassy Suites, 600 N. State, costing about $30 one way. Cabs would be a little more unless several of you arrive close together and can share.

If you really want to get into the Chicago experience there is an el at the bottom level of O’Hare called the Blue Line which you can take to the Roosevelt Road stop.  Get off and follow signs north to Howard to catch the Red Line to the Grand Ave. stop.  The hotel is just a block away and the cost is $2!

From Midway the shuttles and cabs will be a dollar or two less as it is closer to downtown.  The Orange Line is the Midway el which you take to the Roosevelt Road stop and then do what those coming from O’Hare are doing!  See above.

For drivers the hotel parking is $36 a day.  Around the corner is the Ohio St. Parking lot where you can park for $29 for 24 hours.

There is a beautiful 20-story atrium in the hotel where we will be served our cooked to order breakfasts at one end and our cocktails and snacks at the other end.  Both are included in the room rate. In between these two events the tables and chairs will be available for us to congregate and visit or plan a little sightseeing excursion.

Millennium Park at Michigan and Randolph is a must see.  The Field Museum will still have the King Tut exhibit and the Art Institute and the Museum of Contemporary Art are always worth a visit. There are also some architectural boat tours lasting from 60 to 90 minutes.

We will have a sightseeing info sheet waiting for you at the hotel.

Carol and I recently lunched at the hotel to check out the restaurant and found it quite tasty. We walked around the block and found The Melting Pot Restaurant specializing in fondues, the Weber Grill and the historical Pizzaria Uno at Wabash and Ohio. Greek town is only a mile west with many good restaurants like the Greek Islands. These are all possibilities for a Friday night meal. There is also the Redhead Piano Bar  on Ontario.

There was a question about what to wear to the Sat. night dinner. Casual dress-up is recommended  but you will be welcome in whatever you chose to wear. Ron Tschudy is thinking of coming as a Conehead -- in an effort to carry out a rocket theme!

News: Saturday night we will be having a silent auction for a number of quite great items. The proceeds will go to support our wonderful website.

The following people are coming to the reunion: Diane Staes, Carol Sanger  Biehn and Bill Biehn (pronounced bean!), Sharon Heald, Mike Clearman, June Ewing, Jackie and Pete Skinner, Nancy Morgan, Marc Eisner, Joe Brooks and Doug Walker, Bob and Ann Chambers, Margene Berry, Elaine and Jim Brownlee, Bonnie Wainwright, Dale and Jody LeMere, Tom and Vicki Lockwood (although Vicki and son intend to primarily sightsee), John and Patricia White, Georgia and Jim Denman, Barbara and Jay Paulus, Lucy Lee Reed, Carmen and Scott Stanfield, Shirley Mann, Sue Jakubiak, Sonny and Bob Benz, Tony Petullo,  Karol and Butch Johnston, Dick Ford, Ted Rosen, Fred and Virginia (Matthews) Wilson, Morry Kaufman, Ken and Elaine (Pruneau) Monson, Jack and Mary DeNicolo, and Ralph Forlenza.

Those of you who are procrastinating or unsure please take action and join your friends of 50 years or more for a wonderful weekend.

Looking forward to seeing you all,
Sharon Heald

Reunion committee: Carol Biehn, Elaine Brownlee and Karol Kane
